The best Netflix horrors that were"inspired by true events"
You know when you're watching a horror movie and you see the words on the screen, "inspired by true events" and in most cases, the thought of the film being even remotely real is the scariest part of it? Well these Netflix horrors are the ones with the most famous and in some cases, most gruesome true stories behind them.
1. Veronica (2018)
This new Netflix Horror that was only released to Netflix on February 26th has worked up quite the storm for itself, with one NME article debating whether this is the scariest horror movie ever.
Directed by Paco Plaza (yes, the same guy who directed REC), this film has made Twitter's horror fans buzz about it since its release. With @pooge87 stating, "Scary is an understatement!"
This Spanish horror follows the true story of a young girl who messed around with a ouija board and started experiencing strange happenings in her family home in Spain in the early 90s.
With the movie taking a more dramatic and horror-film-type-approach to the story, the real life version of events is sure to keep you up at night. With the real life Valleca case files being one of the first cases where spanish police swore to seeing these strange paranormal events first hand, such as hearing strange sounds coming from one of the bedrooms and seeing furniture move on its own.
The Valecca family's oldest daughter started experiencing paranormal activity in her home after getting caught by a teacher when playing with a ouija board in school. Some time after, the girl died in her bedroom and only then did her parents begin to experience the same phenomena that their duaghter had endured which eventually led them to call the police after a particularly terrifying incident.
The movie is available on Netflix, starring Spanish actress Sandra Escanena who was nominated for the Goya Award for Best New Actress from her role in this film.
2. The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
Starring actress Jennifer Carpenter as Annlise Michel, the real Emily Rose, this Netflix horror is definetely worth a watch (even with its now slightly outdated special effects).
This crime inspired horror is based from the true case of Annelise Michel and her death from malnourishment and dehydration. Her parents and the exorcists were found guilty of neglagent homocide. Over the 10 months of which she spent being exorcised at age 17, Annelise had 67 exorcisms performed on her from which she eventually passed away.
Some of Annelise's symptoms were that of multiple mental disorders, including psychosis, epilepsy and schizophrenia. But with herself and her parents believing it was a more spiritual battle that was happening to Annelise, they sought the help of the archdiocese.
You can read more about Annelise's story here. And I suggest you listen to the video below to hear excerpts from the recorded exorcisms of Annelise Michel.
